"Handmade gifts crafted from wood and inspired by God"

About JesusWood, Inc.

The Jesus Wood outreach ministry was birthed out of prayer in December 2004. We prayed for God to show us a simple but effective way to spread the gospel and grow the Kingdom of God. My name is Brent Cohick, my wife's name is Melissa and our daughter's name is Kiley. I woke up one morning and told Melissa that I was supposed to start gluing wood together, all she could do is say OK. When this came to me in my sleep I could see how the wood needed to be laid out. After I glued the wood together and ran it through a planner (to make the wood flat and smooth on both sides), I could see small crosses on the wood for necklaces. While I am picking out, gluing, laying out and cutting the wood I pray for God's direction. The next projects that I was led to start were wall crosses (varying in size), rock memorials and key chains.

Our call to grow the Kingdom of God and spread the gospel led us to design the tag that comes with each Jesus Wood cross. Laying out the tag came first, with the design of the logo and the picture on the front of the tag. Peering out our window one December evening from our home, we noticed a spectacular sunset. Grabbing our digital camera, that was just given to us for a Christmas present, we ran out on our driveway to snap a few photos. Little did we know that this spectacular sunset would be the backdrop to our tags and brochures. At this point we didn't even know about Jesus Wood. When Melissa finished the design we needed to move on to the words within the tag. However, Melissa and I were struggling with the small space and too many words. Kiley could see our struggle and walked over to us. She placed her hands on us and said "Mom and Dad, why don't you just pray and ask God for help?". All we could do is smile and pray together as a family. Directly after we prayed the words started to flow, after all they aren't our words to figure out anyway, and Melissa kept typing. As she was typing the words there still seemed to be too many. Faithfully she kept typing and they fit to the period in the space designed. We looked at each other, smiled and nearly started to cry with joy! God is just sooo good! The design of the brochure came next in a similar manner, only this time with Melissa. One evening she came running out to the workshop with a wild look in her face and a huge smile. She exclaimed, "I know how the brochure is going to be laid out. Did your heart race and excitement fill you when you knew how to lay out the wood?" All I could do is smile and laugh, that was it and the Holy Spirit filled her too. The designs were complete, now how could we get them printed? God had placed Melissa in our local H.S. career center as a teacher's assistant, so she thought that was it. The career center offered a graphic design course which Melissa later found could do all our printing for a third of the cost! Melissa had just taken this job to be close to home and have weekends off, little did we know it was part of the plan too... praise God!

We have both been lead by the Spirit, each Jesus Wood piece is crafted with His majesty and the beauty of God's creation. Each individual piece is unique and one-of-a-kind. We use many local and exotic woods which vary to their growing environment; graining and color are a direct reflection of soil, water and temperature. All of our crosses are hand-cut, hand-sanded, hand-rubbed, hand-buffed and prayed over. Many people pick-up a cross and while holding it they immediately know who the cross is for, others are simply inspired to have an easy way to spread the gospel and can't wait to see how the Spirit will lead them. Wonderful stories of how our necklaces and the Spirit have effected people when placed around them or given to them. Our crosses are not responsible for these experiences, it is the Holy Spirit moving them. Both the giver and the receiver are moved in the Spirit. The testimonies give the glory to our Father.

Ephesians 2:10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

We have made thousands of crosses and other gifts. Many of these gifts have been used in ministries in the United States, other countries, the Great Banquet community, church services, Sunday schools and small groups. Some of our crosses have found their way into Iraq, carried by soldiers. We have given our testimony in many churches, bible study groups and to the Great Banquet community. We are happy to share our testimony and our desire is to glorify our Father and grow the Kingdom of God.

As Christians we are figuratively asked to carry a cross. To be prepared to spread the gospel, why not carry a Jesus Wood cross as a tool?

We draw our inspiration from the book of Matthew in chapters 4, 8 and 9. Jesus is called upon repeatedly to heal the masses, each time someone would ask for healing, Jesus would. In chapter 8:15-13 Jesus went to Capernaum and meet by a Centurion who asked for his servant to be healed. Jesus offered to go and heal him. The Centurion had faith and did not feel he was deserving of having the Savior under his own roof. He asked Jesus to just speak the words and he would be healed. Jesus said he had seen none in Israel with such faith. "Go and it will be done just as you believed it would."

As Christians we are simply asked to place our burdens at the cross and have faith. If we are to carry a cross, why not use it as the tool God gave us? Carry a Jesus Wood Cross and be prepared for someone to ask about it. Pass on the representation of The Body of Christ, the gospel, what the cross means to you and Grow The Kingdom of God. Bear much fruit. God Bless You,
